FLY RIVER

Fly River

Measuring 1050km in length, the Fly River is the 25th largest in the world by volume of discharge. Flowing from the rugged Star mountains, crossing the south-western low lands of the Western Province before discharging in the Gulf of Papua in a large delta.

The estuary of the Fly River is 56km wide at the entrance, and only 11km wide at Kiwai Island, which many consider the mouth of the river. Upstream, the river gradually contracts to a width of 1.6km or less.

Getting on a private charter flight into the heartland of middle Fly River you'll experience the local culture as you're welcomed into remote communities by a sea of colour in traditional dancing and gain a fascinating insight into the daily life of local communities living off the land and the river.

The Fly River is surrounded by massive unspoilt flood plains creating a seemingly endless food source for the local fish population, Barramundi, Saratoga and other acrobatic fish.

Expect the unexpected and join us on a journey to the last frontier.
